Spring Branch is strung along US-281 without much of a downtown, which fools people into driving through it on the way to somewhere else. For a place this size it has an unusual spread: a yard and tap with live goats, a neighborhood bar with a taco truck, a chef-driven kitchen, and four miles of river frontage at the state park.
Here is what is out here, and what each place is like.
At 4 Sun Valley Drive, with something on every night of the week: Goat Unplugged on Mondays at 5:00 PM, trivia on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, live music Wednesday and Thursday at 7:00 PM (all-you-can-eat catfish on Thursday), and a ticketed headliner on Friday at 7:00 PM. Brunch runs every day from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM out of a New Orleans-style kitchen: gumbo, etouffee, muffuletta, beignets. There are live goats on site that kids can feed.
Insider tip: their Instagram posts the whole week in the caption, every night with times and prices. Check it before you go.

A neighborhood bar on US-281 with live music and a taco truck on site. Open weekdays 2:00 PM to midnight, Saturday noon to 1:00 AM, and Sunday noon to 10:00 PM.
Insider tip: the weekend lineup goes up as a graphic on their Instagram, so look there rather than the website.

A 28-tap beer wall, craft cocktails, and live music.
Insider tip: 28 taps is a lot to work through. Tell the staff what you usually drink and they will steer you.

A roadhouse with live music and a room that fills up faster than its size suggests.
Insider tip: call ahead to reserve a table. Standing all night is a different evening than sitting.

A historic German dance hall. Event-driven rather than weekly, so check the schedule before you drive out.
Insider tip: the website is where the dances get announced. Their Instagram is mostly quiet.
Chef Tatu Herrera's farm-to-table restaurant inside Spring Creek Gardens at 11355 US-281 North. Brunch Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Dinner Wednesday through Saturday, 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
Insider tip: they run ticketed Chef's Table dinners, and those get announced on Instagram first.

A Texas craft distillery off Bulverde Road with tours, tastings, and weekend events.
Insider tip: check their events page before you go. Weekends with music on are a different kind of afternoon.
Guadalupe River State Park is the reason a lot of people know Spring Branch at all: four miles of river frontage at 3350 Park Road 31 for swimming, fishing, and tubing. The Honey Creek State Natural Area trailhead next door has 3.6 miles of trail, including an ADA-accessible route. Day passes must be reserved online and are not sold on site. Trails are open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Bring the water you plan to drink.
Insider tip: the park's Facebook page is where closures and ranger programs get posted. Check it the morning you go.

Bulverde is right down 281 and adds Tejas Rodeo on a Saturday night, Specht's Texas, and Twine. Canyon Lake is east and adds High Cotton and Maven's. Out toward Fischer, The Honeysuckle has music on the patio on weekend evenings, and the drive out FM 32 is one of the better ones in the Hill Country.

Most of these places post their weekend lineups to Instagram or Facebook a few days out and never touch their websites. The Hill Country Hot Ticket is a free weekly email covering live music, food, and weekend events across Spring Branch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, and Blanco. Thursday mornings, about two minutes to read.
The weekend, distilled.
