Fifteen places worth your weekend across Bulverde, Spring Branch, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, and Blanco. Every venue name below is a live link. Save this page to your phone and pull it up when Friday comes around.
Bulverde
Twine Bulverde
Neighborhood wine bar and bistro on Bulverde Road with weekend live music, a cigar lounge, and a family-friendly yard. Inside it's polished: 45-plus bottles, flatbreads, charcuterie, a proper humidor and a private lounge. Outside there's a playscape, a playhouse, and yard games in full view of the tables. That combination is rare out here.
Insider tip: Sunday runs noon to 5 PM and it's the quietest, best-lit time to be there. Reservations strongly suggested Thursday through Sunday.
Tue to Thu 4 to 9 PM. Fri 4 to 10 PM. Sat 3:30 to 10 PM. Sun 12 to 5 PM. Closed Mon.
Cibolo Creek Eatery & Venue
Authentic Mexican and elevated Tex-Mex on the old Cibolo Creek Vineyards property on Bulverde Lane. New ownership, new concept, open seven days. Dinner under the stars is the pitch and the grounds deliver on it.
Insider tip: They open at 10 AM every day and run a real brunch menu, huevos divorciados and eggs benedict included. Sunday closes at 3 PM, so go early.
Mon to Wed 10 AM to 9 PM. Thu to Sat 10 AM to 10 PM. Sun 10 AM to 3 PM.
Spring Branch
Max's Roadhouse
The kind of place where the band is loud, the drinks are cold, and nobody cares what you're wearing. Saturdays bring the biggest crowds, so call ahead for a table.
Insider tip: No cover for general admission, but tables fill fast. Call ahead. Sit on the patio side if you want to hear yourself talk between sets.
Bourbon & Branch
Speakeasy-style cocktail bar on US-281 with a serious whiskey selection and one-of-a-kind cocktails. Locally owned, low-key, and the kind of place you'll end up staying longer than you planned.
Insider tip: Live music Friday and Saturday, karaoke Thursdays, open mic Sundays. There's a taco truck on site. Saturday runs until 1 AM, the latest close in Spring Branch.
Spring Creek Gardens
Part garden center, part cafe, part place you did not expect to find off 281. The patio overlooks the growing grounds and live music rolls in on weekends.
Insider tip: The on-site restaurant, The Desert Spoon, opened March 2026 from Chef Tatu Herrera of Folklores Coffee House. Farm-to-table dining, in-house pastries, 32 wines on tap. Dinner is Wed to Sat 5 to 9 PM. The counter runs Wed to Sun 9 AM to 4 PM for coffee, pastries, and grab-and-go. Closed Mon and Tue. Grab a glass and walk the grounds.
New Braunfels
Freiheit Country Store
A century-old dance hall that still does Friday night right. Less crowded than Gruene with the same authenticity.
Insider tip: Doors open 6 PM but the band hits at 9:30 PM. First-come seating near the dance floor fills fast, so arrive at door open.
Cowboys & Cadillacs
Spacious dance floor, top-tier sound system, weekend live music. A good alternative when Gruene is packed wall-to-wall.
Insider tip: Two-step night without the tourist crowd. Locals know.
Krause's Cafe
Massive German biergarten, 80-plus taps, live music multiple nights a week. Family-friendly until late, with great outdoor seating.
Insider tip: The Wednesday variety nights pull in surprise acts you won't see advertised.
Pour Haus Patio Bar
Downtown patio bar with live music seven nights a week, not a weekend-only room. Cornhole, giant Jenga, swings around the bar, plus pool and bowling inside.
Insider tip: The food truck runs Thursday through Sunday, 7 PM to close. Saturday goes until 1 AM.
Canyon Lake
High Cotton Texas Tavern
Cold drinks, live music every Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 PM, and SATX Barbecue on-site. A full honky-tonk experience without the crowds you'll fight in New Braunfels.
Insider tip: Their bourbon list runs deep. Order Texas first.
Whitewater Amphitheater
Major touring acts April through October, right on the Guadalupe.
Insider tip: Parking is cash only and there's no re-entry, so sort both before you go. Arrive early for tailgate vibes in the lot. Half the show happens there.
Blanco
Redbud Cafe
On the Blanco town square since 2009. Burgers, sandwiches, a full bar with unusual mixed drinks, and live music Friday and Saturday evenings year-round. Not a seasonal room.
Insider tip: Music runs 6:30 to 9 PM Friday and Saturday. The patio is dog-friendly and the burgers are the move. Happy hour Thursday through Saturday, 3:30 to 5:30 PM.
Mon to Wed 11 AM to 3 PM. Thu 11 AM to 8 PM. Fri and Sat 11 AM to 9 PM. Sun 10 AM to 3 PM.
Real Ale Brewing Co.
Brewing in Blanco since 1996 and still the anchor of the town's drinking scene. Massive outdoor patio, full taproom, seasonal live music.
Insider tip: Seasonal releases drop on Saturdays. Get there at noon if you want the limited stuff.
Milam & Greene Whiskey
Texas-distilled, award-winning whiskey on copper pot stills, helmed by 2024 Master Distiller of the Year Marlene Holmes. Seasonal events on the grounds.
Insider tip: Saturday runs until 8 PM and it's the best window. They're closed Sunday, so don't plan a lazy Sunday drive around it.
Mon to Wed 12 to 6 PM. Thu to Sat 12 to 8 PM. Closed Sun.
Border picks, worth the drive
The Honeysuckle, Fischer
Perched on the Devil's Backbone with one of the best views you'll ever eat dinner in front of. Southern flavors and a full bar: fried oyster po'boys, smoked ribeye, cast iron mac. Named for Willie Nelson's Honeysuckle Rose, filmed nearby.
Insider tip: Live music on the patio every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6 to 9 PM. Happy hour Wednesday through Friday, 3 to 5 PM. Closed Monday and Tuesday, so don't make the drive on a whim.
