Live Music and Nightlife
New Braunfels: Freiheit Country Store has a full weekend of live music lined up. Thursday brings the Brandi Behlen Duo at 7:00 PM for an acoustic set, Friday the Cody Widner Band takes the stage at 7:30 PM, and Sunday rounds it out with the Josh Ward Duo and special guests Fast Movin' Trio at 2:30 PM.
Insider Tip: The Cody Widner Band on Friday is the headliner pick of the weekend here. Freiheit goes 21-and-over after 9:00 PM, so families should plan for the earlier portion of the evening. The kitchen runs until 10:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and the bar stays open until midnight. This building has been standing since 1889, and the honky-tonk atmosphere is the real thing.
Blanco: Twin Sisters Dance Hall hosts Justin Trevino this Saturday, August 1, from 8:00 PM to midnight. Trevino is a pillar of the Texas country and conjunto scene, and this is one of the few chances to catch him on a historic Hill Country dance floor this summer. Two-Step Dance Lessons from Cowboy Boots and Boogie start at 4:00 PM for $5 per person before the main show.
Insider Tip: This is a first-Saturday dance, and the hall fills up. Reserved tables and presale tickets are available on their website. Walk-up admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under. If you are new to two-stepping, the 4:00 PM lesson is a low-pressure way to get your feet under you before the band starts.
Canyon Lake: Dam Red Barn brings Gus Clark and The Least of His Problems to the outdoor stage this Saturday, August 1, at 8:30 PM. Clark is a Texas songwriter known for sharp lyrics and a live band that fills a room. The venue sits on Sattler Road near the Canyon Lake dam, with a full bar, a scratch grill menu, and a stage that comes alive on summer Saturday nights.
Insider Tip: The venue is family-friendly from noon to 7:00 PM, then switches to 21-and-over. If you are coming with kids, plan a late-afternoon stop for burgers and yard time, then let the adults double back for the 8:30 show. No cover for live music, and the Saturday night sets run until midnight.
Bulverde: Tejas Rodeo Company runs its Saturday Night Rodeo this Saturday, August 1, at 7:30 PM. Longhorn cattle, barrel racing, bull riding, team roping, and mutton busting for the kids make this the most complete family night out in the Hill Country. After the arena clears, a live country band takes the outdoor pavilion stage from 9:00 PM to midnight for two-stepping under the stars.
Insider Tip: Gates open at 5:00 PM, and the smart move is to arrive early, eat from the on-site BBQ and concessions, and settle in before the 7:30 start. Tickets start around $49 and run higher for premium seats. This show sells out regularly on summer Saturdays, so buy online at tejasrodeo.com before you head out.

Local Eats and Drinks
Spring Branch: Bourbon and Branch is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar on US-281 with a whiskey selection and craft cocktail menu that punches well above its weight for the area. The outdoor stage hosts live music Friday and Saturday nights, Thursday is karaoke night, and Sunday brings an open mic session. A taco truck parks on site to round things out.
Insider Tip: This is one of the few late-night cocktail options in Spring Branch. The bar runs until midnight on weekends, and the patio is the move on a summer night. If you have not been, start with their whiskey list.
New Braunfels: Dry Comal Creek Vineyards runs its weekend patio sessions with live music from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, paired with Uncle's Family Kitchen serving wood-fired pizzas and charcuterie boards from noon to 5:00 PM. The vineyard sits just outside of town and offers a quieter alternative to the downtown scene, with award-winning Texas wines and a shaded patio built for a long afternoon.
Insider Tip: Reservations are encouraged for Saturday afternoons, when the patio fills up. Call ahead at 830-500-3048 to hold a spot. Pair a tasting flight with a charcuterie board and settle in for the afternoon set.

Community and Events
On the Radar: Flatland Cavalry brings their full band to Whitewater Amphitheater on Monday, August 17, at 8:00 PM. This is one of the biggest Texas country acts of the summer on the banks of the Guadalupe. Tickets are on sale now at whitewaterrocks.com. Parking is cash only and there is no re-entry, so plan to stay for the full show.
