Live Music and Nightlife

New Braunfels: Phoenix Saloon lines up three free shows this weekend. Elysha LeMaster takes the stage Friday at 9:00 PM, George Joseph Marsh plays a Saturday afternoon session at 2:00 PM, and Mach 5 closes out Saturday night at 9:00 PM. No cover on any of them.

Insider tip: The Saturday double-header is the play. Grab an afternoon seat for George Joseph Marsh, stay through dinner, and you are already posted up when Mach 5 hits at nine. The Phoenix is a historic downtown saloon with one of the strongest whiskey selections in New Braunfels.

Bulverde: Specht's Texas runs live music four nights straight. Thursday starts with John David from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday brings the Matt Tejeda Duo from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Saturday stacks Chris Lopez in the afternoon (2:30 to 5:30 PM) with Kopia taking the evening from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, and Sunday wraps it up with Jeff Jacobs from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM for a musical brunch.

Insider tip: Sunday brunch with live music is the sleeper pick. The building dates back to 1890, and the grounds, shade trees, and old-school Hill Country charm make the outdoor seating one of the most underrated weekend spots in the area. The kitchen runs a solid burger and smoked meat menu all weekend.

Canyon Lake: High Cotton Texas Tavern brings Erik Flores to the stage this Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, free admission. The tavern runs live music every Friday and Saturday evening, with SATX Barbecue serving smoked meats on site.

Insider tip: SATX Barbecue is on the lot through the weekend, so you can build a full evening out of brisket and live music without leaving the property. The covered patio on FM 306 is the best seat in the house once the sun starts to drop.

New Braunfels: Cowboys & Cadillacs brings Ellis Bullard with Michael Armstrong to the stage Saturday, August 15, from 8:00 to 11:30 PM. The venue on Loop 337 has one of the largest dance floors in town and a sound system built for a Saturday night.

Insider tip: If you are looking for room to two-step without fighting for floor space, this is the spot. Arrive by 7:30 PM to grab a table before the band kicks off.

Local Eats and Drinks

Spring Branch: The Desert Spoon is a farm-to-table restaurant tucked inside Spring Creek Gardens on US-281, where Chef Tatu Herrera builds a seasonal menu around Hill Country ingredients. Counter service runs Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for coffee, house-made pastries, and sandwiches. Dinner service Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM features fried quail, flounder ceviche, and pork schnitzel.

Insider tip: Wednesday and Thursday happy hour runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The restaurant sits inside a working nursery with fountains and blooming gardens, so the setting alone is worth the stop.

Blanco: Real Ale Brewing Company hosts Music Bingo: 80s Hits Machine this Friday, August 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the taproom and beer garden. The Blanco brewery has been crafting Hill Country ales for over 30 years, and the taproom pours everything from Fireman's #4 to seasonal releases and small-batch spirits.

Insider tip: The beer garden is shaded and dog-friendly, and the taproom pours beers you will not find on draft anywhere else. Grab a tasting flight and settle in for the bingo round. Open Wednesday through Sunday.

Community and Events

On the Radar: Whitewater Amphitheater wraps up August with Dylan Gossett and special guest Charles Wesley Godwin on Saturday, August 29, at 7:30 PM. This one sold out weeks ago, but if you have tickets in hand, it is one of the last major Hill Country concerts of the summer. Parking is cash only and there is no re-entry, so plan to stay for the full set.
