Live Music and Nightlife
New Braunfels: Gruene Hall opens the weekend with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers on Friday, August 21, at 8:00 PM. Clyne has been filling dance halls and theaters across the Southwest for decades, and a Friday night inside the oldest dance hall in Texas is the kind of pairing that sells itself. Saturday night brings Scotty Alexander to the stage at 9:00 PM. Doors open an hour before each show.
Insider tip: Gruene Hall is general admission and standing room only for most shows, so arrive early if you want to be near the stage. The Grapevine across the street is a strong pre-show stop for food and drinks while you wait for doors.
New Braunfels: Watering Hole Saloon & Dance Hall stacks four nights of live country this weekend. Thursday kicks off with Jake Botello & The Hill Country Outlaws from 8:00 to 11:00 PM, Friday brings Texas Double Shot from 8:30 PM to midnight, the Corey Weaver Band takes Saturday from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and Sunday wraps up with the Jeff Jacobs Trio from 3:00 to 6:00 PM (no cover).
Insider tip: Thursday through Saturday carry a $5 cash cover at the door, but Sunday is free. The dance floor is one of the larger ones on the north side of town, and the drink specials rotate nightly. Arrive with cash for the cover and for parking.
New Braunfels: The Redbird Listening Room runs four shows in four days. Friday features Will Overman and Logan Mac at 7:30 PM, Saturday brings Matthew Robinson at 7:30 PM, and Sunday winds down with Hank Weaver at 4:00 PM. Thursday is Songwriter's Night, with an open sign-up at 6:00 PM and songs starting at 7:00 PM.
Insider tip: The Redbird caps each ticketed show at 60 seats, which means every seat is a good one. BYOB is welcome ($10 fee per group), and the venue sells Ramblers, sodas, coffee, and charcuterie plates from Huisache Grill. Doors open 30 minutes before each show. Buy tickets at redbirdlisteningroom.com, as these intimate sets sell out regularly.
Local Eats and Drinks
Canyon Lake: Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill is a family-owned restaurant and bakery with two Canyon Lake locations, one on FM 2673 and a newer spot on FM 306. The menu runs from artisan baked goods and specialty desserts to full breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates, with beer and wine to round things out. The south location opens daily at 8:00 AM, and both locations stay open until 8:00 PM or later on weekends.
Insider tip: The dessert case is what put this place on the map. Cakes, pies, and pastries are made fresh daily, and the popular ones sell out by mid-afternoon on Saturdays. Call the south location at 830-964-2159 to get there early and grab whatever catches your eye through the glass.
Blanco: Texas Cannon Brewing Co. sits on 4th Street in downtown Blanco, a block from the courthouse square. The brewery pours its own craft beers alongside a full food menu, and the front porch is one of the better spots in town to settle in for a slow afternoon. Open Wednesday through Saturday until 9:00 PM and Sunday through Tuesday until 8:00 PM.
Insider tip: Texas Cannon is one of the few spots in Blanco where you can get a quality craft beer and a full meal without a reservation. The patio fills up on Saturday afternoons when the weather cooperates, so plan for a late lunch if you want a seat outside.
Spring Branch: BlueBird Bread Co. is a sourdough microbakery on Highway 46 West, baking with organic flour and no preservatives. The storefront is open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Preorders open Sunday afternoons and close Tuesday at 4:00 PM (or when they sell out, which happens most weeks). This Saturday, August 22, is also a Bulverde Market Day, where BlueBird regularly sets up with fresh loaves and baked goods.
Insider tip: The sourdough loaves are the draw, but the rotating seasonal items are what keep regulars coming back. Orders close early and sell out fast, so set a reminder for Sunday afternoon if you want to lock in a Thursday pickup.
Community and Events
On the Radar: Whitewater Amphitheater hosts HARDY: The Country! Country! Tour with McCoy Moore and Jake Worthington this Friday, August 21. Doors open at 5:30 PM with the show kicking off at 6:55 PM. This one is sold out through the venue, but resale tickets are circulating on secondary platforms. Parking is cash only and there is no re-entry, so plan to stay for the full show.
